In addition to giving tours and participating in campus events, each POLY REP serves on one executive committee. The committees are:
Alumni
Campus Tours
Communication and Publicity
New Member Recruitment
School Visits and Presentations
Special Events
Alumni:
The Alumni Events Committee is responsible for assisting with the coordination of alumni events on campus and to promote the Cal Poly Alumni Association-especially to current Cal Poly students. This committee will be in charge of establishing a successful Student Alumni Association (SAA), which will exist to promote spirit and a deep connection for current Cal Poly students, in hopes that they will remain connected to Cal Poly after they graduate. Alumni assists in events such as Homecoming, Grad Days, A Week of Leaving, and POLY REP Alumni Reunions.
Campus Tours:
Tours is one of the most visible things current, and prospective, students see POLY REPS do. As a committee, Campus Tours is in charge of organizing which POLY REP will give each tour. Tour guides are required for daily general tours, as well as tours for special groups. ALL POLY REPS are expected to sign-up and give tours; a minimum of one per quarter. The committee helps provide incentives for tour sign-ups, as well as evaluates each tour guide yearly. The tour committee is also responsible for organizing and executing tour training for all new members.
Communication and Publicity (CAP):
The CAP Committee is in charge of maintaining all organizational records and correspondence and gathering all university information necessary for the smooth operation of the POLY REP organization. CAP is responsible for creating agendas and minutes for all meetings. CAP is also responsible for all publicity efforts, such as banners, sandwich boards, ads, website, etc., for POLY REP and recruitment events. This committee also creates a quartly newsletter. New Member Recruitment (NMR):
This committee is responsible for filling the vacancies on POLY REPS for the next academic year. The Fall quarter consists of recruiting qualified applicants, Winter quarter includes interviewing applicants, and Spring quarter involves welcoming the New Members. To recruit and assess potential new members, the NMR committee conducts informational meetings, creates a recruitment theme, establishes selection criteria, creates all application and interview questions, and conducts all interviews. Once the new members are selected, the NMR committee helps all new members becoming aquainted with POLY REPS providing mentors to all new members.
School Visits and Presentations (SVP):
The School Visits and Presentations Committee coordinates high school and community college visits by POLY REPS and other Cal Poly student volunteers throughout the year. This includes visits to local (San Luis Obispo area) schools, as well as out-of-the-area schools, and visits to hometown schools. SVP coordinates STORM, a quarterly event where POLY REPS travel to a specific area to promote Cal Poly to area high schools, as well as Hometown Heroes, an event that all Cal Poly students can participate in. Hometown Heroes trains students to go to their own high school to talk about Cal Poly, and is a great way to get a taste for what POLY REPS does.
Special Events:
The Special Events Committee is responsible for organizing and assisting with on-campus and group related activities throughout the year. These events include Boo Bash (our Halloween Celebration), Winter Banquet honoring winter graduates, New Member celebration, Spring Banquet (honoring spring graduates), plus any other social events through the year.
